Bosque del Apache National wildlife Refuge, "woods of the Apaches", is a 57,191-acre wildlife sanctuary of upland desert and floodplain established in 1939. The area is the winter home for more than 17,000 Greater Sandhill Cranes, 30,000 Snow Geese , 50,000 ducks of 14 different species. Coyotes, black-tailed Deer, Porcupines, Pheasants, wild Turkeys, Roadrunners, great horned Owls, as well as bald and golden Eagles are all part of this diverse habitat.
Thousands of Snow Geese and Cranes simultaneously fly up from their water roost into the dawn sky. Flying all around you, this is a sight and sound you will never forget. Photo opportunities abound making the Bosque one of the most popular bird photography locations in the northern hemisphere.
Lodging is in nearby Socorro New Mexico, a short drive to the refuge. We’ll be sure to be at the “FLY OUT” bright and early to capture all the action.
The best photo locations are easily accessed a short distance from our vehicle. The small group size provides maximum opportunities to return home with wonderful images of the beauty and birds of Bosque Del Apache.
